The Dream
Name: Andrea Chameli Waxon
Age 24
Occupation: Works at a jewelry store that she'd love to quit from so she could start one of her own.
Sexuality: Straight
HIV/AIDS Status: -
The Visage
Avatar Claim: Aishwarya Rai
Eye Color: Blue-green
Hair Color: Light brown due to hair dye. It's naturally black.
Height: 5'7
Weight: 130
Facial Features: Her eyes seem to stick out on her face, mostly due to their unusual color and their almost cat like appearance. Her nose is slightly pointed, but not too conspicuous and her lips rarely miss the feel of lip gloss.
Anything Else?
Overall Dress/Appearance: Despite what Drea might think, she's actually very beautiful. She got most of her features from her mother, from her bronze skin to her cat like eyes. Her hair's kept down to her back and she keeps it dyed brown, as a way to remember her crazy college days by. She tends to avoid rainy days, because it's likely to frizz at the slightest bit of moisture and she thinks she's self conscious enough without having a ball of frizz on her head. Her face is heartshaped and sits on a long, elegant neck. She's rather slim in body type and slightly taller than the average woman. As for her clothes, they're actually slightly bolder than she is, especially when it comes to her jewelry, as much of it is homemade. While she doesn't constantly wear neon, she knows how to put outfits together that will look nice.
The Demeanor
Overall Personality: From the start, Andrea was a very shy woman. It could be said that she has a very childlike quality to her, skirting away from most confrontations and seeming almost ready to find her mother so she could hide behind her leg, like she did on her first day of kindergarten. She's also incredibly insecure, not exactly being one to stand up for herself and she often thinks that she's nothing special, and too ordinary to be liked by most people. This is why she tends to keep to herself, watching life go by her while she's glued to her own seat. She often feels lonely in doing this though, especially when she sees a trio of friends. It reminds her of the old days, her own golden age, which she misses terribly. She has a tendency to cling to the past.
Despite her recluse tendencies, Andrea's really very sweet and has a warm heart. When she makes a friend, she'll do just about anything for them, if only because she'll be surprised that they give her the time of day. While she's shy, she doesn't object to fun, so long as it doesn't end up being too wild. Most surprising about her, however, is the fact that she is, in fact, capable of being assertive and even angry. She simply picks and chooses her battles. If someone's life is on the line, she can be downright mean if that's what it takes. However, she usually goes by the, "You'll catch more flies with honey," route. She has a deep belief that if you're nice to people, it'll eventually pay off. So she does her best to be generous and kind to people, even if they're not the nicest to them.
She's also a big dreamer, and additionally, she's disciplined enough to take the steps that it takes to accomplish those dreams. She's able to endure a seemingly thankless job, and go without some luxuries, if it means she'll save up the money it takes to start a business. She doesn't really need that much, anyway. So long as she gets some amount of food, heat and supplies, she's satisfied. She sometimes wishes that relationships were as easy as a career goal.
What is your character's deepest secret? Due to how reserved she is, it's hard to pick just one. I guess it's her anger at Emily for leaving her all alone, barely calling.
What is your character's strongest desire? To live a happy life, one where she has friends and her art.
The Past
Family: Danielle Waxon-her mother and best friend growing up
Marty Waxon-her father, who absolutely adored his little girl and still has issues reminding himself that she's a grown woman.
Padme Waxon-her grandmother, who still lives in India. She's a little overbearing and old fashioned, but very sweet.
Previous and Current Romantic Relationships: None, actually. Andrea's love life has been very slim.
History: Andrea was born in India when her parents were visiting family. She was born prematurely, but ended up being okay. It was after this unexpected occurence that her mother proposed that they visit India every year around Andrea's birthday. She spent most of her quiet childhood in Philadelphia, never having too many friends, despite her mother's efforts. Danielle tried to sign Andrea up for classes outside of school, as a way for her to learn to socialize. It didn't exactly work out; all it did was make her a great soccer player and begin her obsession with creating jewelry. It just seemed like the girl was born shy. Anyone who believed in nurture over nature would find themselves quite stunned over this girl who, honestly, didn't seem to have any experiences that would lead to her being this shy.
Things got worse in high school, what with the newly formed way of life filled with hormones and cliques. She just didn't seem to fit in anywhere and often found herself sitting alone at lunch. It got to the point that she had to run to the bathroom so no one would see her tears when she had to speak in front of the class. While a few people bullied her for her shy disposition, thus increasing her insecurity, most people simply watched and pitied her, unsure of what else to really do. When she turned 17, her parents finally decided that it was time that she went out on her own, hoping that it might cure her of her inability to socialize normally. They paid for her college tuition (since she had gotten accepted into the college of choice anyway) and an apartment in New York City, helping her settle in.
While it didn't exactly work (from what she could tell), she did make the two best friends she could ask for at NYU; Emily Roberts and Star Thomas. After college, they wound up moving in together. For the first time, Drea felt like she could trust people other than her parents, and she actually learned to enjoy herself in public, although she still retained that childlike shyness. Emily and Star, a very happy, if dynamic couple, did what they could to make her poke her head out of their shell while playing the roles of the big sisters that she never had. Sadly, Star had to have a blood transfusion after getting apendicitis, which in turn landed her with AIDS. Star did her best to take in in stride, although it was clear that this knowledge was killing her just as much as the disease. Emily had to be stopped in several suicide attempts by Drea; this was where Andrea learned to be assertive. When Star died, Emily ran off to San Francisco, because she felt as though Star was haunting her. Now Andrea lives on her own, supporting herself, pretty sure her life's always going to be this lonely.
She dreams of owning her own jewelry store, selling her creations to customers. Unfortunately, for now she's working at a different store, one in which she has a tyrant of a boss that she's not nearly bold enough to stand up to.
Let Us Begin...
RP Sample: Andrea sighed of relief as soon as she walked out of the Cat Scratch. She was really getting sick of it. The perverted men, the smell of cigarettes and beer, the outfits, every bit of it. She even had a calender, where she charted how much money she got and put away as much as she could as to be able to rent out a space for her jewelry store. She even had enough to display and sell by now. Now if she could just get enough money, she could quit and say goodbye to that horrible place.
Well, at least she wasn't the center of attention. That was Mimi. She didn't really know her too well, and to Andrea, that was a good thing. Mimi just seemed too...wild for her. Even Emily was never that wild...Em. She sighed as she took a look at the photo in her wallet. They were all at the Life Cafe, toasting to finally graduating college. Andrea didn't really know why she couldn't get a better job...why did all of the job interviews go terribly? Of course, it was obvious. She was just too shy. She had very few people skills. And this was the price she paid for it. "Perfect" she muttered under her breath before stuffing her wallet in her pocket and heading back to her apartment.
