The Demeanor
Overall Personality: (At least two paragraphs) Cathy is not the navie girl she was in High School, she’s more mature now, realizing she has to take responsibility since she has a daughter now. She hasn’t forgotten how to have fun, however, and still loves to play the childish games she loved in High School. She’s still immature, acting as if she’s 6 sometimes; acting like the ‘fun mom’ in the family usually and still likes cartoons, which, with a 4 year old is probably a good thing.
She’s still very creative and loves writing and does it whenever she gets the chance. She’s a daydreamer and sometimes can hide in that little world of hers that she did years ago, especially when her mind wonders if things could’ve been easier…she knows she’d never want that, but she can’t help but wonder.
She’s still self-conscious and sometimes worried about what others will think of her when they know about Faith. She loves to joke and she can be rather sarcastic. She’s very stubborn and hates being told what to do. She’s very protective of her daughter and thinks of her as one of the best things in her life. She’s also outgoing and hates to just sit and do nothing. Hates to worry and will ignore any worrying thoughts that come in her mind for although she has learned to not hide her emotions as much, she still doesn’t like to show worry or sadness, especially not in front of her family. She’s also very open-minded on people who are different. She feels she’d be a total hypocrite if she weren’t. She’s not very religious and really doesn’t know where she stands on religion, but really doesn’t care…all religion seems to cause is drama, which she still hates and tries to avoid at all costs.
What is your character's deepest secret? (Will not be revealed in the course of the game unless you wish it.) She truly loves having a daughter and Adam, but sometimes she wonders if things would be better the way they were before she met Adam
What is your character's strongest desire? (Same as above.) That Faith will have a normal life, even with a teenage mother and father
The Past
Family: Karen Truman-Mom
Eddie Truman-Dad
Becca Truman-Sister
Adam Parker-Husband
Faith Parker-Daughter
Previous and Current Romantic Relationships: Her husband is Adam Parker and that was her only real relationship
History: (At least two paragraphs.) Cathy was born and raised by Karen and Eddie Truman. From a young age, she was taught almost everything a little kid could now about the Christian faith. She was taught songs, some Scripture, and made to go to church every Sunday.
She never really thought much of it. She was sheltered, so, she thought, this was just what normal kids did. She never really thought of questing it.
When she was 2, she got a sister named Becca. Cathy never really gave Becca much mind. She was a bit disappointed that Becca would sometimes get more attention to her, but, in general, she paid no attention to her. Until recently, Cathy realized her sister listened to her and would do what she said. She toke this to her advantage to make her sister to whatever she said like clean her toybox when her mom would ask Cathy to do it.
When she was 6, she was enrolled in a public school, due to money problems so her parents couldn’t put her in a Christian public school as planned. There she met Jeff Richards, a quiet, smart boy who she became friends with. His smartness pretty much amazed her and even though their personalities were quiet different they became best friends and would do everything together. He lived with his aunts after his parents died, which she never thought much of until she realized his aunts were not two sisters living together as she had originally thought but were actually dating.
She didn’t know what to do with this information. Her parents had always taught her that gays were sinful. She tried still being Jeff’s friend, but it all become too awkward to be with him; he made her feel uncomfortable to be around. It was like he became a different person; she didn’t know how to talk to him so stopped being friends with him.
Though it hurt her to lose her first best friend, she didn’t let it bother her and kept being happy and optimistic, never showing her sadness from not being friends with Jeff anymore. In the 2nd grade she met a boy named Daniel Pitts; whom became her new friend. He wasn’t her best friend at all by any means, but they got along pretty well and she was desperate for a new friend; not many people seemed to like her ‘oddness’ anymore…her creativity was now considered just plain weird.
He kept her sane from the teasing she was starting to endure. He stood up for her, he was nice to her no matter what people said about him. But, sadly, that very next year he went to another school, leaving her all alone to endure the teasing.
That was when she started hiding all her emotions; they couldn’t tease her if she didn’t say anything. However, it didn’t seem to help and they seemed to just tease her more, wanting a reaction. She started to hide in her own little world, convincing herself she didn’t care at all. The only good thing that happened that year was that she met Jessica, a free spirit with an attitude. She didn’t seem to care about Cathy’s weirdness and became her friend. Cathy instantly accepted Jessica as her new friend and though by far she wasn’t as understanding and sensitive as Daniel was, she was still nice and hung out with her; which was just fine with her.
She also began liking the new world she had been creating for herself; it was enjoyable, it was fun; when she was in her world there was no drama. The year before junior high she decided what she needed; to avoid reality and thus she’d avoid all drama and sadness. It made all the teasing that year not matter.
In the 7th grade, she met Susan Bailey, a quiet Christian girl who wanted Cathy to join her youth group to be ‘saved of sin.’ Cathy, wanting new friends, accepted. She was in a youth group herself and they didn’t do much but basically eat lots of junk food; it might be fun, she figured. Jessica, however, was angry at that fact, saying she couldn’t hang out with Susan and that she was a brainwasher, as was her little youth group. Cathy tried to explain all she wanted to do was make more friends; she couldn’t stand all this teasing…she needed more friends than Jessica. An argument soon erupted; Cathy accusing Jessica of being jealous that she might get along with anyone but her and Jessica accused Cathy of going against the big picture of everything just to make friends.
That night Cathy went to the youth group, until Susan’s leader started preaching against the gay community. She instantly thought of her old friend Jeff and got extremely uncomfortable.
After the meeting, she pulled Susan aside asking, “Do you really believe that?” to which Susan said, “Of course…homosexuality is clearly written in the Bible as a sin.” And with that Cathy realized she didn’t hate the gay community as her parents had taught her too…she just couldn’t believe all that stuff the preacher was preaching. With that revelation made, she instantly detached herself from Susan and her youth group and with some talking, coffee, and handshaking, she was friends with Jessica once more.
In 7th grade was also when she met James and his friends, whom she hated the most of all who teased her. Everything she did, they would make fun of her for. She couldn’t stand it and would fight back a lot and usually she’d be the one who got caught and get in trouble, making her hate him more.
When High School started; her old friend Daniel came back to her high school. She was ecstatic at first until he decided to become friends with James’ friend Adam. They had some fights about it and soon she just gave up with becoming friends with him again.
She tried not to notice when he started to seem…distant to everyone. She tried hard; she just…couldn’t talk to him while he was friends with Adam. The most worrying thing was when she overheard Adam and Daniel talking and him and him being kicked out came up. She tried not to let that worry her; she convinced herself he was only joking. When he wasn’t in school for a while after that conversation she was worried; she didn’t ask Adam; after all they hated each other. Well, they’d never really talked…but, he was friends with her worst enemy. Later on however, she learned he had been kicked out than killed himself soon after. That hurt her bad...she had a small panic attack as soon as she got home that day, willing herself not to cry.
At the funeral, she saw Adam and noticed he wasn’t praying during any of the prayers. After the funeral, she approached him, curious to why he didn’t pray. He got into a temper saying he didn’t feel he should pray that his friend would basically go to hell for this. Cathy was shocked at Adam’s sudden…loyalty to his friend and didn’t interrupt as Daniel’s parents came to the casket and Adam yelled at them for what they did to him. She was suddenly filled with feelings she had never felt before…or not to Adam…sympathy and care.
She was also in deep shock at what Daniel’s parents did to him; kicked him out, just for being Wicca, which made him evil in their eyes. These were the exact kinds of things she had been trying to avoid all her life; she tried to not listen, not pay attention, but it all went swirling in her mind. She felt like she was drowning and couldn’t breath and with that ran out of the funeral home. She hardly got any sleep that night.
The next day she decided to take a walk to hopefully calm down her new-found emotions. There she found Adam, who was sitting on bench, looking quite miserable. Something made her want to stop and listen. He was talking to Daniel, looking up at the sky. At first he started yelling at his friend, asking him how he could’ve left him. Then, he calmed down, apologizing for that and putting all the blame on himself for his death. It filled Cathy with the same sadness from yesterday, sadness she didn’t like. She tried to sneak away, but, he heard her, calling her out. She sighed and admitted she was listing and asked, “Do you really believe it’s your fault?”
Adam answered by basically saying she was too innocent to understand the horrible things people can do to one another then soon started yelling, saying how he was sick and tired of people trying to convince him it wasn’t his fault…he tries to take responsibility for once, and no one lets him. As Cathy watched him during all this, she felt something she had read enough books to know about…her heart was burning; burning for him, to help, to do something. He left her saying if she wanted to do what was best for her let nothing between them change. As soon as he left, Cathy realized tears were rolling down her cheeks, but she felt too numb and shaken to stop them. Then she cried, really cried for probably the first time in her life. After that moment she knew she should avoid him, but she never did…she kept thinking of him, dreaming of him.
In the meanwhile, she was becoming friends with a new girl in class named Lisa Conner. She was more sensitive than Jessica and actually got her to talk about her problems unlike others. One day, she found out Lisa was adopted because her father had abused her. This sent her in a spiral of confusion and horror, this was more real life than she had ever wanted. She also felt that all the times she thought she had it bad, Lisa had it much worse. She sat out in the park one day thinking of this when she saw Adam. They made some slightly tense small talk at first, then Adam asked what was wrong, noticing there was something wrong with her. Cathy asked him what he thought it would be like to be beaten, and before he could say anything else, Cathy went on about how as bad as she thought things were, for some it’d be nothing. For once she wanted to feel something…she was tired of not feeling anything. Even now, she said, she was feeling nothing at all. She then looked at Adam and said, “Will you help me…will you help me feel something for once in my life?” Adam looked at her in shock, so, Cathy asked him to hit her, force her to feel. At first he refused, then he did hit her. At first lightly, then it was as if all the anger in him that he never got out channeled and he started hitting her harder, Cathy screaming at him to stop it. He did and with a look of shock, disgust, and shame ran off, leaving Cathy sobbing just like last time.
The next day, Adam wasn’t in school. After school, she searched the town for him, feeling worried when she couldn’t find him. She then went into the only other place he might be; an old, unused barn. There she found him, sitting in the hay, looking miserable. She came to him and apologized, but he wouldn’t take that and toke all the blame himself. She tried to quiet him with a small finger to the lip. Something then came into Adam and soon they were kissing, simply at first, then more passionately. Soon, it developed something she didn’t understand, even when they woke entwined in each other’s arms.
Afterwards, she started getting sick a lot. She ended up having to stay home for a few days because she felt so bad and soon her mom toke her a doctor. That’s when she realized she was pregnant. Cathy was shocked, not understand why or how it could happen…then, she understood. At first she was scared then she started imaging her and Adam and a little baby, a family together. That made her smile and from that moment she knew if the baby was a girl her name would be Faith. Adam promised to marry Cathy in college, which her parents weren’t so happy about. They did end up getting married right before college and now Cathy is happy with her baby girl Faith who is now 4.

RP Sample: (At least 2 good paragraphs, more is much encouraged. Please write as the character you're applying for. I'd like to see how well you know the character. ) Cathy froze, feeling suddenly faint. Pregnant? No, that was impossible, she wasn‘t married, there was no way…unless…that day with Adam…but how could that…? The white walls of the hospital seemed to move around her and she had to sit down. She vaguely heard her mom talking to the doctor, but, she was too lost in her own thoughts.
She found herself involuntarily touching her stomach. She closed her eyes. Adam and her baby was in there, which now seemed impossible. This all seemed like some strange dream. This wasn’t the way she planned it; she planned to get married then have a child; but not now…she was only 15, how could she have a baby, especially when she was so messed up at the moment. When she couldn’t even understand her own feelings? How was she to teach a child anything. She shakily rubbed her hand in a circle on her stomach in a gesture of comfort. A piece of Adam was in there, in her. No matter what happened, she’d make sure their child was safe.
