Annaliese knew her neighbors must have been tired of her playing in her apartment all of the time so she had traveled up to the rooftops with her violin case as she was dressed only in a red jacket that went down to her knees,a long sleeved blue shirt, blue jeans and high heels. Her hair was placed in a bun as she walked quickly past all the doors of her neighbors, making sure that none of them met up with her. She then walked up to the rooftop and opened the door, looking around as she stepped onto the roof and placed her case on the ground and opened it,pulling out her violin and bow as she began to play her own rendition of the song,'Blues in The Night, the piece was a classical one but also sounded close to the jazz theme,as she played, there was breaks to where she could sing and she sang these words: My mama done tol' me When I was in pigtails My mama done tol' me A man's gonna sweet-talk and give you the big eyes But when the sweet-talking's done A man is a two-face, a worrisome thing Who'll leave you to sing the blues in the night
Now the rain's a-fallin' Hear the train a-callin, "whoo-ee!" My mama done tol' me Hear that lonesome whistle blowin' 'cross the trestle, "whoo-ee!" My mama done tol' me A-whooee-ah-whooee ol' clickety-clack's A-echoin' back th' blues in the night
The evenin' breeze'll start the trees to cryin' And the moon'll hide it's light When you get the blues in the night Take my word, the mockingbird'll sing the saddest kind o' song He knows things are wrong, and he's right
From Natchez to mobile, From Memphis to St. Joe Wherever the four winds blow I been in some big towns An' heard me some big talk But there is one thing I know A man's a two-face, a worrisome thing Who'll leave you to sing the blues in the night
The evenin' breeze'll start the trees to cryin' And the moon'll hide it's light When you get the blues in the night Take my word, the mockingbird'll sing the saddest kind o' song He knows things are wrong, and he's right
From Natchez to mobile, From Memphis to St. Joe Wherever the four winds blow I been in some big towns An' heard me some big talk But there is one thing I know A man's a two-face, a worrisome thing Who'll leave ya to sing the blues in the night Yes the lonely, lonely blues in the night." But with the parts she didn't sing--she played her violin wildy--she was lost within her own mind, she didn't even hear the sound of the door of the rooftop opening.

No one was complaining at all about how much Roger's tendency to brood had decreased since Mimi danced her way into his life. That didn't mean that Roger didn't enjoy a little alone time still. After all, he was a pensive person by nature, even if some people who saw him when he was enjoying himself didn't quite see it that way. Honestly, how else was he supposed to come up with anything to write if he wasn't given the chance for quiet reflection. So that was why he was up on the rooftops. That was an almost guaranteed alone time spot at any given moment of time. And he promised that he wouldn't brood up here when he heard Mark teasing him as he headed out. Honestly, that guy would be so dead if he weren't like a brother to him. As it was, all Mark got in return was loving ridicule in return for his smart alec comments.
However, it appeared that tonight would be an exception to the empty rooftop rule. The moment he walked outside into the somewhat fresh (after all, pollution was inevitable in the city) air, he heard a soft voice singing along to...was that a violin? That would explain the sounds he had been hearing as of late. Naturally curious, especially when it came to unexplained sources of music, he strolled toward where he heard the bluesy tune coming from. He had to admit, while it wasn't his style, it wasn't half bad either. Besides, he was pretty sure he heard somewhere that rock had some origins in those kinds of genres, so he supposed that scorning, even to try and look cool (which was pathetic anyway), it would be a bad idea.
He stood back after seeing a tall-ish, feminine figure playing a violin after some time of following the music, tapping his foot after finding a distinctive rhythm. So this wasn't quite what he had had in mind for his time up here, but hey, a little free entertainment never hurt anyone. "Impressive," he murmured, although his voice turned out to sound much louder than it would be expected to. It must have been the utter lack of noise other than the violin and the young woman's voice.

Annaliese heard a voice murmur and she jumped, almost giving herself a heart attack as she stopped playing her violin and turned around, seeing a man on the rooftop,he didn't look familar to her so she had to guess that this one of her neighbors and she disturbed him. "Whoa, you scared me there...I thought I was alone on the rooftop...apparantly not...."Anna gulped as she leaned down to put her violin back in its case, closing her eyes slowly as she saw a picture of her and her mother in there. "Soon,mom..."She whispered. She then stood up and wrapped her jacket around her as she replied,"If you came up here to complain about my music playing,go ahead...."She then raised her arms out, waiting for the insults to come out.

If there was ever a moment when you just know that you'd hear the sound of a record being scratched to a stop if you were living in a movie, now would be that time in Roger's life. He winced after seeing the woman jump about ten feet in the air before seeing him. That wasn't at all what he had wanted to see happen, and he wasn't very good at dealing with those sorts of situations. Clearly, this woman was pretty frazzled, but Roger found himself stunned when she told him that she was ready for any complaints. "What?" he said stupidly. Then he shook his head and walked closer. "Um, sorry. No, I'm not here to complain or anything...I didn't even realize anyone was up here until I came here. And even if I had...I have no complaints. You're actually pretty good."

"Same here..."Annaliese replied as she wrapped her jacket around her, protecting her from the cold in the air tonight. She heard his compliment and she moved a strand of her hair behind her ear and said,"I am? Well,thanks...It's nice to hear something nice from someone nowadays..."Anna then got friendly now as she asked,"Say,haven't I seen you around here before? Anyways,I'm Annaliese and you are....?"

"Now that I could see...it's a good thing you weren't anywhere closer to the edge of the roof," Roger responded, a slight smirk crossing his face. Well, at least he could add a little humor into this situation that didn't demand someone jumping. He nodded at her question. "Yeah...and that's not usually my genre of music, so it takes real talent for me to think it's that good." He arched an eyebrow when she asked if he had seen her around. "Maybe. I live here, after all," he answered as he strolled closer. "I'm Roger...nice to meet you." So he was still getting used to meeting new people again....at least he was being polite. That counted for something, didn't it?

Annalise rolled her eyes playing around as she replied,"Okay, that's not funny...I know you made me jump a little but not THAT much!"Anna then laughed softly and replied,"Well,I know you live around here--I do too so you know...I just moved here a few weeks ago but I do live here."When she heard that her music wasn't his style so she kind of guessed he was a rock type of guy--granted she was too but she liked the blues now more than ever. Anna noticed he was strolling pretty close to her--not that she didn't mind it--not at all. She was willing to meet a new friend, she needed friends. Anna then smiled and replied,"Likewise,Roger...it's nice to meet someone who doesn't think my violin playing is like hearing a cat wailing during the night! My neighbor's remark--not mine..."Anna then laughed softly and replied,"Oh! I knew I saw you around here! I live right down the hall from you and your friend,Mark...that's his name right? I have never been good with names..."
